This is from a photo reference from a lovely pink peony from my garden. When I select a flower to paint,  I have to carefully examine which flower has a beautiful and expressive form and though all flowers are beautiful but there is something I am looking for in terms of shapes, shadows and variation in petal  shapes and sizes.  This lovely flower is a beautiful example of the perfect peony, with beautiful directional swirls in the petals and enough detail to be interesting, variation in petal sizes and lovely shadows that help create a more interesting and dimensional flower.
